Prioritizing Internet Telephony in the FritzBox
Poor voice quality occurs when there is insufficient bandwidth available for VoIP telephony. For flawless voice quality, you should expect at least 100 kbit/s for both upload and download per simultaneous call.
Keep in mind that other programs, downloads, and web browsing also consume bandwidth. It is important to prioritize VoIP telephony, otherwise other programs will use the full bandwidth, leaving insufficient capacity for telephony.
You need to prioritize internet telephony in the FritzBox:
Setting Up a Prioritization Rule for Internet Telephony
- In the FRITZ!Box user interface, click on "Internet".
- In the "Internet" menu, click on "Filters".
- Click on the "Prioritization" tab.
- Check whether a rule for "Internet Telephony" exists under "Real-time applications".
- If no rule exists, click "New Rule".
- In the dropdown list, select "All Devices" as the network device (default setting).
- In the dropdown list under "Specify the network application:", select "Internet Telephony".
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
*Please note that settings may differ depending on the firmware version. Please refer to your FritzBox manual for specific instructions, or contact AVM support:
