Overview
The Jitter Buffer feature compensates for variations in packet arrival times (jitter) during VoIP calls. When voice packets arrive at irregular intervals due to network congestion or routing delays, the jitter buffer temporarily stores them and plays them back in the correct order, resulting in smoother audio quality.
To access these settings, log in to the PBX admin portal and navigate to PBX Settings > Jitter Buffer.
How it works
The jitter buffer sits between the network and the audio decoder. It collects incoming voice packets, reorders any that arrived out of sequence, and releases them at a steady rate. The Cloud PBX uses an adaptive jitter buffer, which automatically adjusts its size based on current network conditions—growing larger when jitter increases and shrinking when the network is stable.
Configuration
Enable the jitter buffer by toggling the switch at the top of the page. Once enabled, you can select which trunks and extensions should use it.
Select trunks
Choose the trunks that should use the jitter buffer. Move trunks from the Available list to the Selected list.
Select extensions
Choose which extensions should use the jitter buffer. Move extensions from the Available list to the Selected list. Both the extension number and name are shown to help identify the correct entries.
Buffer settings

| Max Jitter Buffer Size (ms) | The maximum buffer size in milliseconds. The buffer will not grow beyond this value, even under heavy jitter. Default: 200 ms. |
Tip: A larger maximum buffer size can absorb more jitter but adds latency to the call. For most networks, the default value of 200 ms provides a good balance between audio quality and delay. Only increase it if you experience frequent audio dropouts on specific trunks or extensions.
Important: The jitter buffer only applies to trunks and extensions that are in the Selected list. If you experience audio quality issues on a specific connection, make sure the affected trunk or extension has been added.
