Overview
An outbound route defines how outgoing calls from your Virtual-Call Cloud PBX are routed through the trunk to the public telephone network. Using dial patterns, you determine which dialed numbers are handled by which trunk and how the numbers are reformatted before being sent.
You can assign outbound routes to specific extensions or extension groups and use time conditions to control when a route is available.
Prerequisites
- Administrator access to the Virtual-Call Cloud PBX
- At least one configured trunk
Outbound Route Overview

Editing an Outbound Route
In the Operations column, click to edit an existing route. The configuration is divided into several sections:
Section: General
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Name of the outbound route (required) |
| Outbound Caller ID | Phone number transmitted for outgoing calls through this route |
Section: Dial Pattern
Dial patterns define which dialed numbers are routed through this outbound route. Using the Pattern, Strip, and Prepend fields, you can reformat the dialed number before it is sent to the trunk.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Pattern | The pattern that the dialed number must match. Use X as a placeholder for a single digit (0–9) and . (dot) for one or more additional digits. |
| Strip | Number of characters to remove from the beginning of the dialed number before the call is sent to the trunk |
| Prepend | String to add at the front of the number after stripping |
Dial Pattern Examples
A typical example for Switzerland:
| Pattern | Strip | Prepend | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
0XXXXXXXXX | 1 | +41 | National number (e.g., 0441234567): the leading 0 is removed and replaced with +41 → +41441234567 |
+41XXXXXXXXX | Number in international format—forwarded unchanged | ||
00X. | 2 | + | International number with the 00 prefix (e.g., 004912345678): the 00 is removed and replaced with + → +4912345678 |
+X. | International number with + — forwarded unchanged |
0XXXXXXXXX) above general ones (e.g., +X.).Click Add to add more dial patterns.

| Rrmemory Hunt | When enabled and multiple trunks are assigned, calls are distributed across trunks in round-robin fashion |

Creating an Outbound Route
- Navigate to Call Control → Outbound Route.
- Click Add.
- Enter a name and, optionally, an outbound caller ID.
- Configure the Dial Patterns: enter a pattern for each number format with the appropriate Strip and Prepend values.
- Select the desired Trunk.
- Assign the extensions or extension groups that should be allowed to use this route.
- Optional: Adjust the Time Condition.
- Click Save.
Best Practices
- Pay attention to the order of outbound routes: when a call is placed, the first route with a matching dial pattern is used. Always place more specific routes above general ones.
- Also pay attention to the order of dial patterns within a route: the first matching pattern is applied. Sort patterns so that specific ones come before general ones.
- Use Strip and Prepend to convert local number formats into the international format your trunk expects.
- Assign outbound routes to specific extensions or groups to control who can make calls through which trunk.
- Use time conditions to restrict expensive international calls outside business hours, for example.
