Overview
AutoCLIP (Automatic Calling Line Identification Presentation) ensures that when returning a call, the system automatically uses the phone number the caller originally dialed as the outgoing caller ID. This way, the called party sees the same number they previously dialed—rather than a different company number.
This is particularly useful when your company uses multiple phone numbers (e.g., for different departments or regions) and you want to ensure that return calls consistently show the correct number.
Prerequisites
- Administrator access to the Virtual-Call Cloud PBX
- At least one configured trunk
How It Works
AutoCLIP stores the mapping between the incoming caller ID and the called number (DID) for a configurable period. When an extension makes a return call, the system checks the last digits for a matching entry and automatically sets the corresponding DID number as the outgoing caller ID.
AutoCLIP Overview
Navigate to Call Control → AutoCLIP Route.
At the top of the page, you can enable or disable the AutoCLIP Route using the toggle switch.
Columns in the Overview
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Extension Number | The extension that made or received the call |
| Called Number | The DID number on which the original call was received |
| Trunk | The trunk through which the call was processed |
| Expiration Time | When the AutoCLIP entry expires and is deleted |
| Operations | Actions: Delete entry |
Use the Delete and Settings buttons to remove selected entries or adjust the AutoCLIP configuration.
Settings
Click Settings to open the AutoCLIP configuration.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Record Keep Time | How long AutoCLIP entries are stored before they automatically expire. Default: 8 hours |
| Digits Match | Number of trailing digits used to match incoming and outgoing numbers. Default: 7 |
| Delete Used Records | When enabled, the AutoCLIP entry is automatically deleted after a successful return call |
| Only Keep Missed Call Records | When enabled, only missed calls are stored for AutoCLIP—answered calls do not create an entry |
| Match Outgoing Trunk | When enabled, the return call is routed through the same trunk on which the original call was received |
Trunk
Select the trunks for which AutoCLIP should be active. Move the desired trunks from Available to Selected.
Extensions/Extension Groups
Define which extensions or extension groups AutoCLIP should apply to. Move the desired entries from Available to Selected.
Setting Up AutoCLIP
- Navigate to Call Control → AutoCLIP Route.
- Enable the AutoCLIP Route toggle.
- Click Settings.
- Configure Record Keep Time and Digits Match as needed.
- Enable the desired options (Delete Used Records, Only Keep Missed Call Records, Match Outgoing Trunk).
- Select the trunks for which AutoCLIP should be active.
- Assign the extensions or extension groups.
- Click Save.
Best Practices
- Enable Only Keep Missed Call Records if AutoCLIP is primarily used for returning missed calls—this keeps the list manageable.
- Enable Match Outgoing Trunk to ensure return calls are routed through the same trunk as the original incoming call.
- Adjust the record-keep time to suit your business requirements: shorter times keep the list lean, while longer times allow later return calls to still use the correct caller ID.
- Set Digits Match high enough (e.g., 7) to avoid confusion with similar numbers.
